Secondary target audience

Those who may be new to the concept of pocket sized devices and games but are interested in the concept of having a virtual buddy that is part of the users everyday life. Interested in the productivity aspect of the byte console.

Why Byte?

The name of the product byte as is based on the unit most computers use to represent a character such as a letter, number or typographic symbol.

Therefore, the virtual buddy is a single block because of this as we decided to make the design of the logo blocky to fit the idea of byte and the inspirations of retro games.

By using a natural colour pallet, it makes the logo and design of the game itself welcoming, bright and new rather than old.

Colour Palette

Natural colours is used for the design which was inspired by nature, aiming for a neutral and comforting palette.

The goal is to evoke a sense of belonging, achieved through the use of brown and greyish tones to convey security and comfort.

Additionally, touches of green and off-white are introduced to add a bit of colour, making the design of the byte device and game to be welcoming when users open it on their console.

Type

Since the size of the console is pocket size which meant the screen would be small so the type had to be easy to read which is why Roboto is used for this.

Features of Byte

What is the Byte product?

Throughout the grieving process, one may find themselves navigating the journey alone, without a companion to share the burden.
Byte was created for those experiencing isolation during grief – a digital companion that walks alongside users, providing support in their day-to-day lives.

By using features such as gamification to make the grieving process a bit easier, turning it into a positive experience as well as building a community by letting you connect with others.

Creating a pocket sized product allows users to take the byte anywhere they go allowing Byte to live alongside with the user and complete tasks together as they go through the grieving process and a less isolating experience.

Touch Screen

Users can use the touch screen to change the camera angle of the room as well as change the settings such as toggle on/off the time.

Stylus

users can use the stylus to write to communicate with the byte and they will reply depending on the users answer.

Touch Pad

Users can interact with the byte using the touch pad through touch gestures. This will lead to the byte with different expressions

This is Byte, Your Virtual Buddy!

By using the touch pad on the bytes device, users can interact with the byte with different touch gestures or by talking to the byte which can lead to different reactions such as happy, bored and angry. For example a single tap will grab the bytes attention, double tap will lead to the byte asking if you would like to talk to it and a swipe up will lead to the user giving the byte a hug.

Other features of Byte include a timer to work together, making tasks more productive and less lonely. After cooking, Byte gives players items. Users can unlock items by interacting with Byte, promoting good habits and self-care. Journaling with Byte allows for talking and responsive conversations. Users can touch objects to explore and manipulate them easily, like moving furniture or using tools. By doing activities and journaling, rooms expand, unlocking new items for exploration, boosting engagement and creativity. This growth symbolises users journey during the grieving process with byte.

Wireframing

By doing the wireframing for the byte product, it helped me to think about the user experience of the product itself such as how does the touch pad, touch screen and the stylus will work together and how all three features has it’s own functions as well as how the user will play the byte game. By doing a wire frame it helped me to see how functional the product was and how the user may experience certain interactions with the byte.

Byte’s Virtual Room

Users can engage with the bytes room from various perspectives using the interactive touch screen interface, offering complete autonomy over their virtual space.

They have the flexibility to enable or disable functions like timers and clocks.

Moreover, the byte carry out activities while also engaging users with inquiries, prompts, and scheduled tasks initiated by the user.

Another notable aspect of bytes is the capability for users to link up with other byte users, facilitating interactions between their bytes.

This creates a shared experiences, community-building among users, and the cultivation of connections and empathy during the grieving process as well as creating a strong community.
